Now that you have learnt all about clay, what it is used for and how to make something with it you will need to talk with others (in groups of 4 or 5) about what an alien from another planet might need that is made out of clay. Work with your group members to come up with 2 or 3 ideas of what an alien might need that can be made with clay and the process you would have to do to make it.
Use the cooperative group tasks that can be found on the resource page to make sure everything gets done.
Each group will also get a chance to use the class iPads to experiement with the design process using 'Let's create! Pottery HD app.
We are now going to have some people who work with rocks in their jobs as well as people who make objects using clay come to talk about what they know about clay and what they do with it.
You will need your listening ears, your journals and a writing pencil to write down some important things you learn from these visitors.
Make sure you ask lots of questions!
You must now design one of the objects you thought of with your group. Choose which object you would like to make from those that you thought of with your group. Think about what it might look like and draw it, labelling the parts and write a step-by-step plan.
Don't forget your journals and a pencil for drawing your design. You might also like to have a look at some process drawings to get ideas of how to label your drawing.
